Silverio Gepoleo Caldito passed on September 28, 2026, at the age of 81. He was a resident of Lake Stevens, Washington.
Silverio, Silving or Bing to family and friends, was born in Pavia, Iloilo, Philippines on June 20, 1945, the fifth child of Julio and Maria Caldito. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Central Philippine University in 1968. He then went to pursue his Master of Management degree from the University of the Philippines in Iloilo City while working as a supervisor for the Department of Agrarian Reform.
Bing immigrated to the United States in 1982. He worked for the Washington State Department of Corrections for 27 years until his retirement in 2010. He then worked for Edmonds Community College as an instructor teaching Horticulture courses to inmates at the Washington State Reformatory in Monroe, Washington, finally retiring completely in 2012. He and his wife then split their time between Washington State and Iloilo, Philippines.
Bing was a man of many talents. He was someone who once he starts a project will never stop until he finishes it. He’s done carpentry work at home, completing the unfinished basement of
his house all on his own. As an Agriculture graduate, he put to use his Horticulture knowledge by landscaping his backyard and choosing plants that thrive well in this climate.
Bing was generous with his time, talents and finances. He volunteered for many projects including school functions and fundraisers in Washington State. In the Philippines, he has
helped friends financially and emotionally. He is known and respected in that community.
As a family man, Bing was a faithful and loving husband. He married his wife Nelida in 1975.
They have one daughter, Nellie. In 2025, they returned home to the Philippines to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in a simple celebration attended by family and friends. He treated his spouse with respect and gentleness and was never known to cause her any
heartache. His relationship with his daughter was strict but coupled with firm but loving attention. He insisted that Nellie be respectful towards others especially to her elders. In spite of his down to earth approach to life, Bing was also a romantic by heart. He met his wife, Nelida when both of them got their first jobs in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental in the Philippines, Bing as a Horticulture teacher and Nelida as an English instructor in the newly founded La Carlota City College. They became good friends and the relationship went a step further. At one time, to show his affection for her, he gathered fireflies from a tree blooming with
thousands of little blinking lights, put them in a jar, and presented them to her. And that was the start of a beautiful relationship which endured all of 51 years!
Bing is survived by his wife Nelida, daughter Nellie, brothers Rudy and Danny, their eldest sister Emmie and a host of nephews and nieces who will all miss his steady presence and enduring strength. He could have lived more fruitful and productive years, but as the Lord has chosen to recall him to his heavenly kingdom, we rely on our faith that he will rest in peaceful repose in His bosom.
WE LOVE YOU BING.
