In Loving Memory of Sonia Aristizabal Hormaza
September 17, 1951 – October 15, 2026
Sonia Aristizabal Hormaza was born on September 17, 1951, in Colombia, to Luis Carlos Aristizabal Becerra and Lucila Hormaza Bueno de Aristizabal, the youngest of three daughters. She was a devoted daughter and sister, carrying a deep commitment to family throughout her life. She is survived by her two children, Carlos Manuel Perdomo Aristizabal and Ana Maria Perdomo Aristizabal; her sisters, Amparo Aristizabal Hormaza and Lucila Aristizabal Hormaza; her daughter-in-law; her son-in-law; and her grandson. She was a woman of remarkable strength, independence, and integrity, whose love and determination touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In Colombia, she was an entrepreneur, and after moving to the United States, she built a successful life as a self-employed professional house cleaner in Texas, working tirelessly from 2003 through 2024. Her relationships with the families she worked for grew far beyond her profession. Over the years, she watched their children grow, celebrated their milestones, and became a cherished part of their families. They loved her not only for her dedication and hard work but also for her humor, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm for life.
She loved music, encouraged everyone around her to dance, and found happiness in seeing others happy. Often with a camera in hand, she delighted in capturing the joyful moments of those she loved, preserving memories of celebrations, laughter, and togetherness.
Above all, her greatest pride and joy were her two children. As a single mother in the United States, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to providing for them and ensuring they had every opportunity to build meaningful, fulfilling lives. Everything she worked for, every sacrifice she made, and every dream she carried was rooted in her love for her children.
She instilled in them the importance of integrity, determination, and taking pride in one's work. She taught them that anything was possible through perseverance and hard work. Even when their choices took them down paths she might not have chosen herself, she never stopped believing in their ability to succeed. Her encouragement gave them the confidence to pursue their own lives, and her example shaped the people they became.
One of her deepest wishes was to know that both of her children would find healthy, loving marriages and build happy lives of their own. She lived to see that wish fulfilled, bringing her a profound sense of peace and comfort.
Independence and dignity were central to who she was. Even as she faced the challenges of dementia in her later years, she remained a woman of extraordinary spirit. She spent her final days in the loving care of her daughter, in the comfort of her daughter's home, just as she had wished. In the end, she was able to leave this world on her own terms, surrounded by the love she had spent a lifetime giving to others.
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, perseverance, and faith. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her unwavering devotion to family, her generous heart, her courage, and her determination to always give her all in everything she did.
Her greatest accomplishment was not measured by her work, but by the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, the unwavering faith she carried, and the love she leaves behind.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
