

Walter Russell Gaines, 87, of Camas, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2025.
Born on May 24, 1937, in Vancouver, Washington, to the late George and Lola Gaines, Walt led a life of service, love, and laughter. Walter was in the Washington National Guard for 8 years. He also attended Biola Bible College in Los Angeles, California. He went on to have a distinguished career as a Retrofit Engineer with the Boeing Company, where he worked for 33 years.
Walt is survived by his wife, Carol, the love of his life, who he met in 1961. They were married for 63 wonderful years. Also survived by their children, Dan and Judy, son-in-law, Philip, grandchildren, Hannah, Philip, and Jaleena; and his brother, Joe Gaines.
As a devoted member of his church, Walt’s faith and compassion extended beyond his home. He volunteered for foreign missions in Ukraine and Russia, as well as in his local community, where he spent time bringing joy and laughter to children’s hospitals and Nursing homes. Walt’s infectious smile, warm words, and quirky sense of humor made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery on January 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
Walt will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy of kindness, humor, and service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
A funeral service for Walter will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 1:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA 98203. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA 98203.
