Alfred Kenneth Herrenschmidt was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 14, 1933 and entered into rest at home in Lincoln, CA. on March 4, 2025. Al had a passion for baseball, singing and chocolate. When not watching his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field, Al sang at many of his high school dances that his childhood sweetheart, Alice, and classmates would dance to.
Al served admirably in the US Marines during the Korean war, and when he returned, he and Alice soon wed to begin a fabulous 68 year marriage. They raised four sons and moved to California in 1966, where he later became Plant Manager at the Formica Corporation in Rocklin, coached youth baseball for decades, doted on all of his grandchildren, and spent 25 wonderful years with Alice at their dream home in Lake Almanor, CA.
Al was also a humorous storyteller and had a unique way, with his Brooklyn accent, of making you feel like you were right in the middle of it.
Al is preceded in death by his wife, Alice, his father and mother, Alfred Sr. and Mabel Herrenschmidt, his sister, Grace Adamzyk, and grandson, Shane Herrenschmidt. Al is survived by his sons Skip, Marty, Mark (Elaine) and Doug (Ruth Ann), 9 loving grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and countless nephews and nieces.
A viewing will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, at Mount Vernon Memorial Park 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628.
