

Austin Lyons was born on April 2,1929, in Sulfur, Louisiana. He was the eighth of thirteen children born to Willie and Cresie Esclovon Lyons.
Austin moved to San Francisco in 1946, when he was 17 years old. He worked in a rope factory until 1951, when he was drafted into the US Army. Austin served in the US Army for 22 years, his speciality was ammunitions and artillery. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam War and received over a dozen awards.
Austin met the love of his life, Yong Sun Kim, through mutual acquaintances, when he was stationed in Korea. After leaving Korea, Austin continued to correspond through letters with Yong. In July 1965, they were married in Korea. They were blessed with three children, Geanne, Kristie and Franklin.
After retiring from the US Army, Austin worked at Procter & Gamble as a machinist for 17 years. After which, he decided to hang up his working gloves and retire with his wife, Yong to Lincoln, California.
Austin was preceded in death by his sisters Verna, Uradell, Rosemary, Zerlina and brothers Herman, William, Fred, Harrison, Willis, Percy and Sam.
Austin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Yong Sun; children, Geanne Lyons and partner, Charles Magnuson, Kristie Lyons and husband, Ronny Martens, and Franklin Lyons; grandchildren, Cecilia Robles-Garten and husband, Seth Garten and Robert Martens and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Austin enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He always had a smile on his face and an infectious laugh. Austin had a sweet tooth, loved planting and harvesting fruits and vegetables from his garden and numerous fruit trees, watching his favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, dancing to zydeco music, listening to country music, and watching WWF wrestling with Yong on Monday and Friday evenings.
Austin Lyons, age 94, of Lincoln, California passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
