January 2, 2024 at her home in the presence of loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Munir Salem Zumot (1940-2019).
Bonnie lived a beautiful, dignified life with an open heart and mind. A selfless woman with a benevolent heart, she provided care and solace while asking little in return. Her husband, Munir, adored her and together they taught their children family values, integrity, hard work, and compassion, imbuing them with the confidence necessary to pursue life with ample fervor. Among many things, she loved antiques, history, foreign culture, animals (especially cats), TV shows about the supernatural, casinos, cheesecake and See’s candy. She valued her time with her family and adhered her special, creative flair to every holiday and occasion. She traveled with her husband to Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and France. She also enjoyed numerous stateside travel adventures with her sister Sharon. She was her sister’s best friend who Sharon deeply loved and cherished.
Bonnie was the second child born to Norma LaDene (Shields) Carver and Lee Wiley Bold in San Jose, CA in 1952. As a child, Bonnie moved several times attending two different middle schools and two different high schools. She graduated from Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto in 1970. Bonnie and her mother moved to Sacramento when Bonnie was accepted to Sacramento State. It was there that she met her future husband, Munir, at a dance in the first months of school. It was love at first sight for Munir. By the following year, at age 19, Bonnie married Munir in San Francisco and the two settled in Sacramento where they raised their two children Jamal and Sidra. Bonnie and Munir, together, were restaurateurs. Their first venture was Joy’s Coffee Shop in Carmichael, and later they took on a larger endeavor, A&W Restaurant, which they ran for 20 years. After retiring from the restaurant business in 2002, Bonnie unhesitatingly and whole-heartedly took a significant role in taking care of her two, much loved, granddaughters for over 10 years. She freely shared her time, memories, skills and passions that uniquely enriched their growth and learning, contributing to the beautiful people they have become. They loved her very much.
Bonnie loved many and was loved by many. She is survived by her son, Jamal Zumot, daughter Sidra (Zumot) Bava, granddaughters Ella and Phoebe Zumot, sister Sharon Allen, niece Heidi LaPoint, great-niece Sierra Dietrick, and great-nephew Kai LaPoint. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, 12 o’clock in the afternoon at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, Chapel of the Valley. Flower contributions can be sent to Mt. Vernon (8201 Greenback Ln, Fair Oaks, CA 95628) or donations to the Front Street Animal Shelter are very much appreciated.
