Major Delmont Groth was born January 25, 1924 in West Point, NE to Herbert and Emma Groth. He passed away peacefully in his home on May 22, 2019. He served in the Air Force honorably in World War II, Korea and Vietnam while being stationed in China, Europe, Newfoundland as well as US bases in California, New Hampshire and New Jersey. After retiring he worked in Real Estate but his love of flying never left. He taught ground school and gave flight lessons to aspiring pilots. He flew air freight for companies in the Sacramento area. Del had a special place in his heart for our Service men and women thereby dedicating many years of his life to volunteering at local VA Hospitals and at McClellan Air Museum.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married the love of his life, Patricia Kyle, to whom he was married to for nearly 62 years. They had four daughters, Linda Kay, Kathleen Marie, Michelle Chris and Kerry Ann and ten grandchildren, Travis, Kelly, Brian, Shawn, Chris, Tyler, Casey, Brett, Branden and Miranda. He also had several Great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled on June 10, 2019 at Greenhaven Lutheran Church, 475 Florin Road, Sacramento at 9:00am, with a burial service to take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon at 12:30pm. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Del’s life.
