Don Giltner III, age 55, of Fair Oaks, California passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, with his family surrounding him. He is survived by his wife Leah of 24 years, sons Seth & Alex, brother Jon (Carol), sister-n-law Kristi (Brian) nephews Dakota, Lucas, Zachary, Nicholas & Chase, nieces Tiffany (Todd) & Sierra. Pre-deceased by his dad Don Giltner, Jr. & mom Diane Collins.
Don was a proud Navy Veteran and never left the house without his Retired Navy Veteran hat on his head. That prompted several "thank you for your service" from people we passed and would often allow him to strike up a conversation. He loved sharing his history of the Navy, that he was Hospital Corpsman and was on the USS Enterprise.
He was injured in the service, which meant he didn't get to complete his Navy Career as he had envisioned, but he stayed busy. He volunteered with the FBI using his background clearance he had achieved while in the Navy. It gave him a reason to get up and get going. In 1996 he met Leah and her son Seth and soon the 3 became a family in 1997. In 1998 Alex joined them and the family was complete. Don was able to become the stay at home dad he had longed for.
He worked hard taking care of his family to make sure they would all be taken care of when his day came to be called home to God. He was successful in this endeavor and although we all miss him greatly, our silver lining is in the preparedness he provided. Until we meet again....
A memorial service for Don will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Ln, Fair Oaks, CA 95628. The service is limited to 50 people, to meet COVID guidelines. There will be a reception directly following in the main building of the Mortuary upstairs.
