Donald G. Clark passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 13, 2022 at his home in Orangevale, California at the age of 90. The day before his passing he was surrounded by the love of his four children, Donna, Debra, Christine and Martin, along with some grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves behind his brother Dale, Sister Joyce, his four children, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, as well as many recent and life-long friends and family.
Don was born August 14th, 1931 in Eureka, California where he was raised until 1942 when he moved to Oakland, California where he completed High School. In September 1949 he attended U. C. Berkeley in pursuit of his degree in Architecture. While attending College, he joined the Navy, serving 2 years in active duty during the Korean War. He met his wife Maria Elena in 1954 and was married the following year.
Don and Maria moved to Sacramento where they started their family. Two days after graduating with his bachelor’s degree in 1956, Don began working for the State of California, Division of the State Architect, as a Jr. Architectural Assistant. He was a Spec Writer for the majority of his career and later became a supervisor, retiring in 1993 after 37 years. Living in Orangevale with his wife of 58 years, he continued as a Spec Writer 8 more years after retiring. During his career, Don became a dedicated member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) where he served as President of the Sacramento Chapter in 1975. After being a member for more than 50 years, he was recognized as the Chapter’s oldest member.
Don was known as a kind and loving man with a great sense of humor. Those that knew him often said he was the only man they met that no one ever had anything bad to say about. He enjoyed camping and travelling with his family, along with gardening, golfing and the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held for close family and friends at his home on Saturday, May 21st from 1pm to 6pm.
