Doris was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 5, 1926 to Joe and Alfreda Hunnicutt. She went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2014. She is survived by her daughters Linda Nelson of Auburn, Sandy Zan (Patrick) of Rocklin and Granddaughter Julie Clagett (Matt) of Auburn. She also had a large extended family whom “Grandma Doris” showered with love.
During WWII she volunteered at the local Service Clubs where she met the love of her life Bruce Burney. They were marries on June 21, 1946 and were together for 57 years. The family moved to California in 1966 to start a trucking business and eventually settled in Applegate.
Doris loved the outdoors and feeding her birds. She loved the area at Lava Beds National Monument and she and her husband visited there every winter for many years. She received an achievement award in 1986 for scaling Sheepy Ridge at Tule Lake and another in 1991 for scaling Glass Mountain in the Modoc National Forest. Doris was a very outgoing person and never met anyone she didn’t like. She would stop and talk to everybody. Her sunny optimistic personality and rosy outlook on life will be missed.
She served on the board of the Heather Glen Community Service District of Applegate and volunteered at the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice, 11815 Education St., Auburn, Ca. 95602
