Daughter of Ray Theron Marvel and Dorothy Marie Stafford,Grand Daughter of Edward Minor Marvel and Ada Martha Dryden -Early resident of South Gate, Bellflower, and Red Bluff California, attended the School For The Blind at Berkley California. Graduated from California State University Sacramento with a BA in English, worked for Los Angeles County for 35 years

Aunt Doris, or as her friends called her Dori was a very independent person able to take care of herself and loved ones in time of need. She loved a good joke and well understood the art of conversation. Her friends can tell you that she knew how to listen. Some would say that being blind is a disability, but Aunt Doris, blind since the age of 4 would say it is just another reason to do your best. She knew how to stand up for herself and demanded you address her with any inquiries. She would not stand for anyone answering for her when she could answer for herself. She was an avid reader, mostly mystery novels, but books of all kinds. Sometimes she would correct your speech during a conversation. I believe she was the number one fan of the game show Jeopardy. If you called her 30 min before the show started she would always inform you that "Jeopardy will be starting soon", "and if you called her during the show she would just say "Jeopardy is on I will call you back" and they hang up before you could reply. She love to play the game Word Connect. She could keep track of all the letters and number of words as well as the number of letters in those words. We would play until the battery on the phone would run out. She liked a good BLT as long as it had at least 6 slices of bacon. She was truly a wonderful person and fun to be around.
