As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

There is no one word that will describe you Tay, you've always been a rascal to Nanay in your loving way :) but my brother in law Rich described you well "Jovial". Thanks Tay for showing us that it's ok to stay a kid at heart.  We are not rich in material possessions but we are definitely rich with your love.

Yes there's no one word that will describe you Tay.  You've always been a rascal when it comes to Nanay in your loving way, but to others you've been describe as jovial  :) ( got this description from Rich my brother in law ).  Tay we may not be rich in material things but you've definitely showed us we're rich in love.  Thanks for letting us know that it's ok to keep a little kid in us.

There are no other words that I can express about you Tatay.  I have known you ever since I was a teenager and you were the best and most wonderful person on earth.  You will remain in my heart and mind forever.  I love you!!!!  All our love from the Ferrer Family!

    You're the coolest man on earth. I admire you for being such a very generous, understanding and kindhearted person. I've learned a lot from you Tatay. Since from the very beginning I treated you as my own father. You're always there to help and support us as a family. I always remember and cannot forget the day you called my name 3X while you were in the kitchen eating your breakfast and say "I LOVE YOU", I hugged you and say I love you too Tay. I always remember those wonderful memories...then I cried. That was a weak before you passed away. You always been good to us. Thank you for being nice and for all the prayers. We love you Tatay and again, MARAMING SALAMAT.

Eduardo Abuel Murallon 
(October 13, 1929-January 2, 2015)

I'm here standing before you supposedly to say good things about Lolo. I find it such a very difficult task because I could not find ONE good thing to say about him. He had so many, so many beautiful traits, so many beautiful things I wanna say but I can't possibly say all that in under two minutes. So, I'll try to focus on just a few. 

He's always been very religious. He was a Cursillista, a member of the Banal na Pagaaral, a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He had mentioned to us several times when we were kids that he had wanted to be a priest. But, once he laid eyes on Lola, all dreams of priesthood went out the window. 

Lolo did not preach. He taught us by examples. 

I think Lolo embodied the Christian teachings perfectly. When anyone knocked on our door, he opened it to them. If they were hungry, he fed them. When they were thirsty, he gave them something to drink. When they had nothing to wear, he clothed them. In fact, he was overly generous that he managed to successfully give away most of our livelihood,. And I'm not kidding. People would come to our house, present themselves to Lola and say, “Pinapunta po kami rito ni Tatay Eddie. Sabi nya bibigyan nyo raw po kami ng biik.”  That was how he was. He was not averse to giving and going out of his way to be of service to people. Nothing is too much “abala” for him. He would even volunteer his kids to do something for somebody when he could not do it himself. 

With that, he also taught us not to be attached to material possessions. Because to him, that was all it really was: material. That teaching served us well when our livelihood back in the Philippines went belly up.  I don't think any of my siblings or I minded too much. We were flexible enough and were able to adapt to whatever life threw at us. For that, we're forever thankful. 

It's funny how, when finally Lolo delegated his affairs to me, Lola would instruct me to give Lolo bills in smaller denominations because, if it were left up to him, he would be giving away $100 bills to anyone who asked for alms. 

He was such a bright light amidst all the negative energy surrounding our world today. He was someone who was always so philosophical about anything and everything. I remember when we were kids, he loved to take us places. As he drove as in the car, we would sometimes get lost. Lola would be panicking, saying, “Eddie! Asan na tayo???? Naligaw ka na naman!!!.” To which my dad with his perpetual smile would reply, “Hindi ah. Namamasyal laang naman.”  It was a perfect example of what he's always taught us: to enjoy the scenery even as we were getting lost. 

He also taught us, not in so many words, but mainly through his actions that life is so worth living, because, even though it may get expensive at times, it does include a trip around the sun once every year. 

He's never been a worrier. I've never seen him really stress about anything. He said Lola loved that so much he had assigned my mom to that task. Whenever my siblings and I became too much for Lola, she would go into her, “Wait till your father comes home” speech. Instead of fear being instilled, glee was instead. We knew he was our ring leader when it came to irritating Lola. I've never seen him mad, I've never seen him cry, and I've never seen him frown. He always had this eternal smile on his face. I don't think he's outgrown being a child. He still loved to watch cartoons and Sesame Street with my brothers back then. And he still did. 

Oftentimes, he would be waving and smiling at anyone, striking a conversation with anyone, charming everyone. When asked who that was, he'd say, “Aba'y awan!” He was sent to difficult territories because he was their trouble shooter. He was able to charm the difficult physicians into prescribing the medications his company was manufacturing. 

People gravitated to Lolo like moths to light. That was what he was. A light…bright and luminous. Illuminating everyone he touched.

And so here we are, gathered together, not to mourn him, but to celebrate him. That is what he would have wanted. He disliked drama and tears. He has told us, again, not in words but through his actions, not to cry when something wonderful is over, but rather to smile cause something wonderful had happened. 

Jim, one of the knights I notified of Lolo's passing asked, “Aside from Grand Knight, what other titles did your dad hold?” I replied, “Uhm, Best Dad? “That's good, that's a good title…that's very good.” He responded. 

To one very bright light that will never be extinguished. A light that just dims a little to make way for dawn…to someone who has served so many people just by being… here's to you, Lolo: we'll miss you…I will miss you, but we'll keep on smiling, I'll keep on smiling because wonderful you happened to us all…

Though we're apart, you'll always be in my heart. Hug Papa Ric for me my dear Lolo. I know you're at peace now with our heavenly father. I love you. I love you. I love you.!

A few years ago, we took a family trip to Hawaii.  It was Lolo and Lola's first time, so we made sure to cover all the big sights.  Lolo was a big fan of natural beauties so Hawaii was a big hit for him.  They laid on Waikiki beach, ate shrimp from Giovanni's, and even went snorkeling in Hanauma Bay.  They saw so many beautiful sights.  We went to Diamond Head Peak, and as you know it's a moderate hike to the top.  Seeing how Lolo's knees were already giving him trouble and the temperature was nearing the high eighties, we unanimously decided that Lolo would have to wait this one out.  Besides, there were two lengthy staircases---one with 75 steps, the other with 99, followed by a 225ft tunnel to the top that would prove difficult for even those who had healthy knees.  Yes, it would be best for Lolo to just wait for us at the bottom.

So we all agreed and got Lolo situated in the shade with plenty of water.  So, the rest of the family started the hike.  With the crowds, the heath, and the never ending steps, we were convinced that Lolo was way better off where we left him.  Maybe we should have all stayed at the bottom.  Alas, we made it to the top and it was an amazing view...one of the most beautiful to date---blue oceans, and sprawling beaches.  We all took the view in and then let out a sigh.  Lolo would have loved to see this.  Then, in the distance, we heard a "YOOHOOOOO!  YOOHOOO!"  My sister and I looked at each other.  That sounds like Lolo...it can't be!  But it was.

Lolo could not sit still and wait for us at the bottom.  He went off on his own and climbed those 200 steps, made it through the tunnel in 80 degree heath, and growing crowds...and he did it with a smile on his face, and shiny bald head beaded with sweat.  We were in disbelief that he made it that far...but not Lolo.

He showed us that day to prove to yourself what you cans do.  Others may not think you can or say they are looking out for you, but only you know what you're capable of.  Lolo knew that and he showed us that day. Amongst other days.  I've taken that lesson to heart.  

Thank you Lolo for the smiles, the love, the laughter, and the happiness.  Most importantly, thank you for showing me that if you believe you can, you're already halfway there.

Lolo; Forever Our Guardian Angel

When I was little, around the age of 3, Lolo would take me out of the house at Checkers Drive and take me to church with him, even if it was on a Monday afternoon and we were a few of the only people attending mass. I would watch him at the alter and admire him from afar as he stood to help the priest and selflessly serve the Lord. I'll always remember every Christmas with him in a santa hat, calling out the names of every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild that happily surrounded him, not for the acceptance of gifts under the tree but to simply soak in the comforting, loud, very enthusiastic tone of his voice. Every night I've been seeing him in my dreams. I'll see his great big smile just as the one you see in the pictures around us, but even brighter, just as I remember seeing since the day I was born.
I'll remember the stories he used to tell us, like the story of how him and Lola met, how he was a ladies man, but as soon as he saw the beautiful Luz Guanlao, he had to have her. His love for Lola I'll always admire. Just the way he looks at her on an every day basis. The way he holds her tight and would give her a look as if they were young and just as in love.
I fell in love with my Lolo by the way his big belly acted as a table for a bowl of Lola's peanuts or a cup of tea. I will cherish the head and back rubs whenever I rested my head on that big belly of his, and I will always search for the feeling of his hands wherever I go; the softness of his wrinkly spotted hands whenever I held it. He would grab on tight and sniff kiss it and call me his bunso.
I'll always remember the last day I came to visit you and Lola on the Sunday before Christmas. You were sleeping so peacefully, so I stayed with Lola in the kitchen before going back into the bedroom to lay next to you. I kissed your bald shiny head and told you how much I love you. I rubbed your back and tucked you in and told you how much I missed you, but I was so happy to visit you on a free weekend and see that big bright smile of yours. I still miss you, I will always be missing you, but now God has His time with you and I promise you we'll be strong because you've been a strong husband, father, and grandfather. Heaven received the most handsome and gentle angel. 
To my ever dearest Lolo, I'll be seeing you every night in my dreams after I pray. I love you more than I can hardly say. Forever and a day, love always, Siapoy.

When I think of Lolo the first three things that come to mind is his big bright smile, his shiny bald head, and his unconditional love for his family. Being one of Lolo's 15 grandchildren, we have memorized Lolo's little mannerisms. Like the way he would use his large belly as a table to balance food or as a pillow during his afternoon naps. Or the way he would greet us by grabbing our entire faces and brushing our hair back just to distinguish which one we were. Lolo never seized to make us laugh. He was funny without even trying. For me it was his voice and his presence that always gave me comfort. Just knowing he was going to be at our house, or coming with us to church, made me happy. When I was younger every time I would come down with something whether it was a cold or a stomach ache I would always come to him. He would simply rub my belly and say a little prayer and just like that it was gone. He also taught me about having faith in God.  I think that's what always gave him the power to heal my ailments and make me feel better. And that faith in God also made him the most optimistic person I've ever known. Thats what I admire the most. Lolo, You have always been one of the most positive forces in my life, and I will always cherish that. Through tears I find myself smiling because I see his contagious smile, his funny little mannerisms and how much love and joy he brought to our lives. I love you so much, Lolo. Missing you every minute.

I love you Lolo, I'll be seeing you every night in my dreams after I pray, and know you're there when the moon shines down big and bright, just like your smile.
