

Born Oct 1, 1917 in Oneonta, NY., the son of Agostino and Celestina (Rosasco) Gardella, he married Erna Baumann on Sept 7,1947.in Sacramento.
He is preceded in death by Erna, his loving wife of 55 years, their son Roland Gardella, and 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Frank, Augi, Richard Gardella and Della Biggio, Emma Irish, Loretta Johnson, and Evelyn Manser>
He is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Brown (Dave) of Placerville, Ca. And Charlotte Kosena (Tom) of Cameron Park, Ca. 4 grandchildren, Ben Brown of San Diego, Molly White of Nolensville,Tn, Cathy Simko of El Dorado Hills and Kimberly Mugg, of Seattle and 2 step grandsons Christian Kosena of Missoula Mt. and Marcus Kosena of San Francisco. Mr. Gardella is additionally survived by 5 great grandchildren, Madeline and Allison Simko , Rachel and Aaron White and Elliot Reece. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Richard and Kathy Gardella of Sacramento. Shirley Costanza , Gary Manzer, Patty Brower, Jerry Shutts and many other nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from Oneonta High School in Oneonta NY. He began his military career at age of 24 in the US Army Corps and served in the US Air Force during World War ll He had a tour in Saudi Arabia and retired at Mather AFB after 20 years of service in aircraft maintenance. He then worked at the US Army Depot and retired after an additional 22 years . He was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church in Placerville and a member of the Saraband Dance club and the Swiss Club.
Ed was an avid sportsman including bird hunting and fishing and with his wife, Erna, Ed was an accomplished ballroom dancer. A History buff with amazing recall, his stories and recollections of his upbringing and military service years were of great fascination to all who were blessed to share time in his presence.
