

Edward F. Meihofer, a man of remarkable spirit and unwavering passion for knowledge, passed away on May 27, 2023. Born on April 13, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of German immigrant parents and a first-generation American in his own right.
Ed lived a life full of diverse experiences, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing him. From an early age, he demonstrated his indomitable spirit and sense of duty when he left high school in 1946 to join the United States Marines.
On July 31, 1948, Ed married the love of his life, Claribel Geariety Meihofer, a union that lasted almost 75 years. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey, supporting and loving each other through every triumph and challenge that came their way.
Ed's career had him cross the United States, from Cleveland Ohio to Northern California, to upstate New York, back to California, to Massachusetts, then back to Southern California, then to Dallas Texas and ultimately back to California. Throughout his professional life, Ed pursued his passions wholeheartedly and because he loved what he did believed he never worked a day in his life. His genuine love for flying, travel, and technology enabled him to turn his hobbies into lifelong pursuits.
Flying held a special place in Ed's heart. He owned multiple airplanes over the years and obtained his private pilot's license in his early 30’s. Ed's love for aviation extended beyond his personal endeavors, as he was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Traveling was an essential part of Ed's life. He had an insatiable curiosity about the world and its wonders. Exploring new places, immersing himself in different cultures, and capturing the beauty he encountered through his lens was a source of constant inspiration. Ed's photographs serve as a testament to his journeys, preserving cherished memories for generations to come.
Technology was another realm where Ed thrived. He eagerly embraced the ever-changing landscape of innovation, continuously seeking to stay at the forefront of new advancements. Ed's passion for technology was seen in every invention taken quickly and happily into his home, from the first televisions all the way to media storage on the cloud.
Beyond his numerous accomplishments, Ed maintained constant pride for his family. He and Claire were blessed with five children. Tragically, Ed was preceded in death by his oldest son, James E. Meihofer, who will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Claire Meihofer, and their children: Sandra Lynn Nelson of San Carlos, CA; Robert A. Meihofer of Sun Valley, Nevada; Patricia A. Meihofer-Smith of Roseville, CA; and Carol Meihofer-Smith of Auburn, CA. Ed's legacy extends further through his seven granddaughters and four great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his spirit of determination and ambition.
Ed lived the very essence of the American dream, embodying the spirit of a self-made man. With his relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation, he accumulated multiple patents throughout his life and ventured into various successful businesses. Ed's entrepreneurial spirit, combined with his dedication to his craft, set him apart as a visionary.

His adventurous spirit, passion for life, and unwavering commitment to progress and hard work have left an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
