I have great memories of the visits we had.  I will miss you aunt Effie.

I wanted to honor mom with high respect. She always took care of us. We never did with out. There were lots of good times and adventures.

When we were small we grew up in a country area. Out on the back acre we had fruit trees and massive black berry vines. One time Mom wanted us to pick the berries and make pies. Well that's not too exciting when you think of the bees and thornes.  Mom convinced us we would go under the vines and there would be no bees. Easy to reach the berries and not other bugs. I think I was 5 and my sister was 3. Mom with 1st and we followed with baskets to pick the berries. She cut a tunnel winding under the vines, no bees and it was easy picking. How she knew there would be no bees I don't know but that night we had black berry pie. 

Yes we played board games and cards. But you should know I was on Dad's team and we won a lot too.

I will miss Mom. She was really special.

How to eulogize a person so key to my upbringing; impossible. I had a very comfortable existence as a child. This was due to her and my grandfather. They were, to me almost the same person --  they almost never left each others side. I can't recall them being apart for very long at all. 

To talk about my grandmother is to use the word patience. She had endless patience. She kept a family of very independent souls together in those formative years of the late 60's and 70's and not one of her children or grandchildren was ever in major legal trouble, nor killed or addicted to street drugs, as is so common today. I do believe this was because of her. She loved us so much and kept that family unit together and set a stellar example of what a good person should be. We literally did not want to let grandma and grandpa down, at least that's my perception.  

I truly believe that the biggest fear that she had in life was of losing a family member. She kept us very close.
Being a nurse to the sick or injured, helping my grandfather get over the trauma of WWII. I truly believe she (and all of us) was his reason for living after that horror.

We had our bumps, as all family's do but she kept it together. If we went astray as some of us did at times -- she would pitch in to apply the appropriate pressure to the situation as was needed. 

I never felt unloved in this life. Due to her. No matter where I was or what I was doing (or how long I had been away) I was always welcomed back from my travels and adventures.
 
My fondest memories were the visits to the house as a child. They kept an open room for us to visit, as I did so often. I remember the endless board games, yahtzee, Uno, Monopoly and of course the Pinochle tournaments we had in that old kitchen. (A game which she had mastered 20 years before I was born.) The seemingly effortless ability to cook a huge dinner for 20 people and not make a mess. I used to watch this in absolute aw. The trips to Grandma "B"'s place in Oregon and the visits to the relatives in Molalla and Portland. Trips to Lake Tahoe and many others.

I will remember her as the one who would beat everyone at a board game with my grandfather shaking his head, gritting his teeth and saying, "Well, I'll Be," and everyone moaning the loss as she laughed on her win. No remorse. She was a winner in life. Its how she lived.

I will miss her dearly.

Memories of Christmas holidays spent at Grandmas with Aunt Effie come to mind. I remember her laughter and smile, her kindness,  and gentle but strong spirit. 
It was always great fun to visit!

I am so glad that Sam & I got to visit with her last time we were down that way.  She was such a sweet person. I will miss her.  Love and prayers to all the family.

I was just thinking about how competitive she was.  She loved to play board games or card games and she didn't care if you were her little big blue eyed grand daughter, she was gonna squash you!  But I loved that about her, I think I inherited some of that.  In her last days she was in a beautiful care home and they would try to entertain the residents by playing things kind of like carnival games.  She looked at me and grimaced, saying "kiddy games, stupid", but then when it was her turn she was all over it, tongue sticking out in concentration, trying to make sure she bested the others.  She was awesome.  I will miss her.

It is hard for me to write this, I have forty seven years of great memories of my grandmother, she loved all her family unconditionally she was witty, smart, quick with a tease, and with a smile, she tot me so many things, always with love, I will always love you grandmother and I will never forget you. love tom

Aunt Effie was feisty and loving at the same time, which was a great combo.  She never forgot to send us Christmas cards which always had a "fox" in the picture. Go figure.  I have missed her cards for the past couple of years and now I will miss her, too.  RIP Aunt Effie.  Love you Jan

I will always remember when I was little Uncle Ken and Aunt Effie would come  to Great Grandmas house and always bring goodies of some kind. I got to spend a lot time with them when they would come up. I remember the jalepeno jelly that she used to make- sure was good. You will be missed my dear Aunt

From the first moment that I met Effie 19 years ago, she has always treated me like her own granddaughter. She hugged and kissed me and told me that she loved me every time I saw her.  I will always remember and miss her smile, her warmth, her strength, her quick wit and her sense of humor.

Aunt Effie was a huge personality in a little package.  She was a "Burroughs" through and through, said what she meant, a little stubborn and loved her family unconditionally!  It was always fun when she and Uncle Ken packed up their girls and came to Oregon for a visit.  Aunt Effie was the perfect combination of sweet and sassy!

Effie was my older sister, a beauiful redhead, so was very fisty have many memories of her and Harold our brother who passed away in 2010.  Miss them both.  With love, Darlene

I think peoples impression of grandma was that she was tiny and sweet.  But what they didn't know is what a strong woman she was.  She knew what was right and what she needed to do and it didn't matter what obstacles came along, she just pushed forward.  She always talked about her dad, who I wish I had known, as a fun person, quick with a joke and the teasing.  She definitely inherited that from him. Grandpa would always say, "You won't get the best of her, don't even try."   Once I asked her what the secret was to being married so long and she said, very plainly, 'well, if each of you always puts the other one first, both of you are always taken care of'. That is how she approached her marriage for sure.  One time I called them in the morning and asked if they wanted to go to the beach.  She said sure, so I packed up and as we are driving out of Sacramento, she said "where on earth are you taking us".  I said, "The beach" and she gasped and said, "The Ocean?". I laughed and said "Yea".  They just laughed, they thought I meant the lake or something.  We had such a good time that day talking, driving, having lunch, chasing Sam around.  I wish I had done that more often.

I have many fond memories of my mother and this is just one of them:  Mom, while on her way to the hospital to visit my Dad, who was sick with an ulcer, slipped in the parking lot and broke her ankle.  She was helped to ER and treated for her injury.  When I arrived at the hospital, I discovered my mom sitting by Dad's bed, foot elevated with a new walking cast, helping dad with his dinner.  She was devoted to her family and will be very missed.
