November 16, 1925 – June 29, 2020
Frank passed away Monday night, June 29th, in Rancho Cordova at the age of 94. He was born in Los Angeles but was raised in Atascadero, CA. Frank had fond memories of his childhood, growing up with his younger sister and brother, playing with his 4 cousins (Henderson’s) and working on a ranch. His father was the postmaster and his mother loved socializing and playing golf on his aunt’s and uncle’s golf course.
After high school graduation Frank joined the Merchant Marines and then the Navy. It was in the Navy that he met his wife of 49 years, Hazel Blumer. After leaving the Navy, Frank worked for Bank of America, FHA and HUD as an appraiser. Frank and Hazel had 4 children and lived in many places; San Jose, Stockton, Fresno, South San Francisco, Millbrae and Roseville.
Frank and Hazel moved to Sun City, Roseville, CA to enjoy their retirement years. There they joined different clubs and exercise programs. Sadly, in 2000, Hazel passed away suddenly. Frank lived alone for 4 years until he met his present wife, Betty Smith. They were married 16 years, until his passing.
Frank enjoyed living with Betty at different retirement communities. He was very friendly with all the residents and staff. He was always telling everyone, “Have a nice day”.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Searway, brother Bob Southwick and his first wife Hazel Southwick. He is survived by his second wife Betty Southwick; children Theresa Milanesi (Monty), Diane Grech (Rick), Mark Southwick (Judi), Janet Craft; stepchildren Terry Shea (Avanna), and Tim Shea; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
We would like to thank the staff at Summerset Assisted Living in Rancho Cordova, Sunshine Villa in Santa Cruz and Bristol Hospice for all the love and care they gave Frank over the years.
A military memorial service will be held on a later date because of Coronavirus, at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, at the Court of Honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or your local food bank.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MountVernonMemorial.com for the Southwick family.
