Sacramento, California - George Howard Groesbeck, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 14, 2022. He was born in Butte, Montana to the late George Frank and Mary Colette Groesbeck. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Judy and daughter Alisa.
George grew up and attended school in Portland, Oregon and enjoyed playing basketball, football and baseball and lettered in track and field. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948-1952 and fought in the Korean War with Company A, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He was also a member of the Chosin Few. George was awarded the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, United Nations Service Ribbon, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, U.S. Korea Service Campaign Ribbon with 2 Battle Stars, National Defense Service, Marine Corps Good Conduct, Presidential Unit Citation with 2 stars and Combat Action Medal.
In retirement George enjoyed camping at Bodega Bay and attending the yearly Chosin Few reunions with his Marine buddies. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on the Raider's, Oakland A's and college basketball teams. He made the beat strawberry ice cream and was very proud of his thriving vegetable garden.
George is survived by Cathie Deese (George), Richard Groesbeck (Lori), Cynthia Groesbeck (Mark), including grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved his family dearly. Dad was a hero is our eyes, a wonderful man who will forever be missed.
A private ceremony for family will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA with full military honors.
