Family and friends are celebrating the life of George M. Oelschlegal. A forty five year resident of Orangevale, spending the last few years in Palm Desert being close to family and enjoying the warm weather.
Born in St. Paul, MN, after finishing school he joined the Navy. He was a six year wartime veteran, proudly serving his country and honorably discharged in Seattle in 1946. After several years of foreign civilian service, he returned home and retired from the United States Army Corp of Engineers. He lived in Orangevale with his wife Jean of 53 years, until her passing in 2005. They were longtime members of the Sunrise Baptist Church. He enjoyed classic movies, reading and telling stories of his travels.
Survived by daughter Susan and son-in-law Peter O'Rorke of the United Kingdom, son David and daughter-in-law Donna of Palm Desert, grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Amicia, Angelica and Christopher, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A funny, joking and adventurous man, he will truly be missed.
Services will be held at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, Fair Oaks, on June 2 at 1 pm.
