On the morning of June 14th, 2022, Gil Wilmer passed away at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Lillian, his siblings Virginia (Dee) Borchert, Frank (Bud) Wilmer and Anna Wilmer. He was born in April of 1926 in SAn Pedro, California, close to where he spent his young years enjoying camping and fishing around their Long Beach home. The family moved then moved to Fresno, California after the 1933 earthquake. Gil graduated from Fresno High School and Fresno State University (Go Bulldogs!). He also attended USC for graduate work and spent many years as a clinical social worker. He retired from the State of California, Department of Health where he worked on the licensing and certification of community care facilities. In 1954 he joined the United State Army and served as a First Lieutenant as a psychiatric social work officer. He was honorably discharged in October 1956. That part of his life was very important to him and made a lasting impression. Gil had many hobbies but his favorite was wood working and making furniture. he was a do-it-yourselfer, and he had everything anyone would need for his hobby in his garage shop that he was very proud of and even had an article run in Wood Magazine in the mid 80's. He built his own house in Fresno in the early 60's that took 5 years to complete since he only had the weekends and evenings to work on his dream home. He also enjoyed stamp collecting, photography and writing short stories when he had time. Gil was close to many of his wonderful neighbors who helped Lillian and him throughout their lives. He was aldo thankful for the staff at Eskaton Fair Oaks, who helped take care of him in the last years of his life. Gil is survived by his nephews Bill Wilmer, Jay Wilmer and Dexter Padgett and niece Nancy Tannahill. Interment will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane in Fair Oaks on July 2ns at 10:30 sharp. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at Cindy and Marc's home in Fair Oaks.
