A native of Chicago, Greg was born in Niles, Illinois on July 8, 1957. Enjoying his youth, he kept busy with activities such as gymnastics, music, playing sports, performing, and hanging out with his siblings and dear friends. Greg left Park Ridge to attend college at Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in Great Neck, New York, where he earned a B.S. in Marine Engineering with minors in Nuclear Engineering, and Physics. Greg went on to earn a U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineers License (Steam and Diesel of Unlimited Horse Power); Stationary Engineers License, State of Illinois; Nuclear Regulatory Commission Senior Operator License, and qualified as a Nuclear Regulatory Commission Certified Senior Operator Training Instructor.
Upon graduating, he sailed the Great Lakes before moving back on to land where he became an Instructor at Westinghouse Nuclear Training Center as well as serving in the Navy Reserves. After spending nine years in the Nuclear Power Plant industry, Greg made a career change that led him into the technology engineering field which included co-founding ACHWorks (designed and managed EFT software) and served as Vice President and Senior Partner of TSS Consultants (with a focus on analyzing air emissions, biomass fuel flow, and recycling). In addition, Greg worked with various Quarter Horse Associations on the design and maintenance of their competition point tracking system.
Recently, he had the pleasure of making another career change into the research and design of highly energy efficient homes with the prestigious Mandalay and Mosaic Home builders. This was a dream come true for Greg; engineering, innovation, creation, and helping the planet.
Being one who loved to stay active, Greg enjoyed playing Senior Softball, weekly volleyball games with his Acme Rockets, watching Bears games with the local Chicago Fans, cheering on the Cubbies, playing with his furry family (Gizmo, Wrigley, & Cali), laughing with his best friend Curt, spending time with friends, having long conversations with his sons, talking sports with his daughter, life’s daily adventures with his wife, and always finding home projects that never seemed to end. His children and wife were his priority and cherished every moment with them. Greg was a loving and devoted husband, father, sibling, and friend who always looked at the bright side and often commented how happy he was with his life.
Greg is survived by his wife, Kat; his children Brent, Sean, and Taylyr; his siblings Jeff, Doug, Scott, and Sue; his many cousins, friends, teammates, and co-workers. Anyone who met Greg, was instantly touched by his mid-west manners, desire to help others, outlook on life and endless energy; He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Because we knew you, we have been changed for good.
