

He attended Grammar School through High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Dad moved to California where he meet the love of his life, Maxine Delores at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Sacramento. They were married on February 28, 1943. Their love endured 58 years until her entry into heaven. Dad and Mom built their first house in North Sacramento where they started their family.
On June 1, 1943 Dad joined the Army Air Corps where he was assigned to the 586th Air Engineering Squad. His service brought him to Guam and back to the U.S. where his last assignment was in Alaska until his honorable discharge on February 25, 1946. During those 3 years of service he received the rank of Sergeant and the following citations, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon Dad’s return to home he was greeted by his first son, Robert Nic.
For the next 35 years Dad was employed as an engineer at McClellan Air Force Base.
He moved his family in 1953 to Fair Oaks where he lived until his death. Dad raised five sons, Robert Nic, Daryl Wayne, David Craig, Marc B, and Herman Kevin. He was a skilled craftsman, building his first home and in the 1960’s remodeling his home in Fair Oaks. He built cabinets, furniture and was always eager to help his sons with their projects.
Dad and Mom always had a passion to travel and take that summer vacation. He first visited Bodega Bay in the 1940’s and it became his summer vacation until his death. He and Mom also loved to pull their fifth wheel traveling throughout the U.S.
His first love was to serve the Lord, being a founding member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Orangevale. He served as Congregational President, Choir member, and Sunday School teacher. He was a long-time member at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Folsom. His life was about serving his God, his family and his country with selfless commitment and dedication. All who knew him loved and respected him as one who valued God, humanity and influenced lives far beyond his circle of influence. He didn’t just build churches and houses, he built character in those that knew him. His humble demeanor and smile were outward expressions of the man he was.
Dad was preceded in death by his oldest son, Robert Nic, and his wife of 58 years, Maxine Delores. He is survived by son’s Daryl (Pat), David (Jane), Marc (Margo) and Kevin (Debbie), numerous Grandchildren, Great, and Great Great Grandchildren.
