Kay was born on August 16,1927. Raised in Beverly Hills, she attended the University of Southern California where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and Amazons. At USC Kay met and married Howard Wood. They moved to Sacramento in 1948 and started making very special and lifelong friends. Kay became active in the community and served on the boards of the Sacramento Junior League, USC Scholarships and United Crusade. She worked to establish educational television and served on the first KVIE board as secretary. Kay also chaired the Sacramento People to People program that entertained official foreign visitors to the State Capitol.
In 1965 Howard was selected to be the Superintendent of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District and granted a one-year sabbatical. The Wood family began their Great Adventure! Together with their daughter Tina, they sold their home and put everything in storage and spent the next three months travelling through Asia and the Middle East. The next nine months they lived in London, vacationing whenever possible all over Europe.
Coming back to Sacramento, they built their home in Carmichael. Kay served on the Sacramento Debutant committee and planned international travel for the California Senate for over 10 years. Kay was a member of Sacramento Rotary and led Rotary groups to South American, Spain and Australia.
Kay played golf and bridge at Del Paso Country Club, enjoyed Sunday dominoes and served on the Sacramento Pioneer Board. She sold the travel agency in 2004 and continued to travel with family and friends.
Howard passed away in 1992 and Kay leave behind her beloved families, Tina and Gary Goodridge, Cody and Kaitlyn Goodridge, Kirsten and Kyle Ingles and 3 great grandchildren, her special friend Alan Calkin and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Del Paso Country Club on December 8,2024, from 11:30am-2:00pm. I'm sure she'd love to see folks enjoy themselves.
