Born on December 13, 1935, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lee was a man of strong spirit and unwavering determination. He lived life on his own terms, with a steady presence and a straightforward nature that those close to him deeply appreciated. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Nelson and Edward Nelson; his sister, Bonell Owens; his nephew, Anthony Virzi; and his grandson, Craig Nelson.
Lee is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Judith, who remained his partner in every chapter of their long and full life together. He also leaves behind his children, Mark and Joy; his grandchildren, Madison, Ashley, Jamie, Richard, Thomas, and Brandon; and his eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought light and meaning to his life.
Lee took great pride in his work. He was an Operating Engineer and man-lift operator with Local 3 until his back injuries led to his early retirement at 57.
Lee had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed listening to music, admiring classic cars, and exploring the open road. Some of his happiest moments were spent traveling across the country in his RV with Judy by his side, discovering new places and collecting memories along the way.
Those who knew Lee will remember his honesty, his strength, and the pride he took in the life he built. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the stories they will continue to share
