Lourdes Tardecilla Oliva, at age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones at home in Elk Grove, CA on February 6, 2019. She was born in Calauag, Quezon, Philippines on December 4, 1940 to Marceliano and Carmen (Ambas) Tardecilla. Ludy, as she was known to many, was the oldest of eleven siblings. Lourdes grew up in the Philippines and graduated from National University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy. She worked as a pharmacist for many years including a career at the Philippine Heart Center Hospital and Philippine Children’s Hospital.

Growing up, Lourdes was always surrounded by many friends, and eventually won the heart of her husband, (retired Colonel) Florante C. Oliva of the Philippine Army as they joined in holy matrimony on Feb 5,1967. She was a devoted and loving wife for 37 years.

Chasing the American Dream, Lourdes immigrated to the United States in 1982 in hopes of providing her children a better life but sacrificed leaving her mother, her siblings and her career behind. She worked numerous jobs including pharmacy assistant at Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA, tax clerk at Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento, CA, and as a semiconductor technician during the Silicon Valley boom in the 1990’s. Lourdes and Florante fulfilled a long time dream of owning and operating a care home in the late 1990’s. And in the year 2000, Lourdes and Florante moved to Elk Grove, CA to retire.

Lourdes lived a life of humility, a passion for shopping and reading, wearing bright colors, and her unconditional love for her family. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children: Michael Oliva, Olivia Oliva-Beaty, and Floricel Oliva-Dizon; her son in laws, Tyler Beaty and Robert Dizon; her grandchildren, Christopher Oliva, Bryanna Dizon, Malia Dizon, Leila Dizon and Joshua Beaty; her great grandchild Jaylina Oliva Tabayoyong; and her surviving siblings Estrella Lusanta, Pedro Tardecilla, Olympia Lerum, Carmencita Sidiangco and Maria Angeles Villalobos; and a host of devoted nephews, nieces, cousins and friends
