It is a very sad day today that I read about Lynns' passing. Although I was closer to his brother Marvin, Lynn used to hang out with his younger brother and his friends and occasionally take us for rides in his new Mercs ('50 and '52 or '53). Our rides at that time were in the '30 and '40's. Just recently I had been trying to connect with Lynn on his FB page, but now I understand why he never responded. May he and his partner, Maxie, RIP.

Grandma and Grandpa were amazing to spend time with. I will remember the special times we had and there were many of them. I love you.

Lynn and Maxie were our best friends since they lived on Plumas Way.  When
Patsy used to have Marie playing school
at two years old.  

I still want to call Maxie every day
for advice on cooking something for
the Seniors.  She always had the answer.

Thank you Sandra for that wonderful tribute.  I was fortunate to know Lynn and Maxie through our square dancing.  I always enjoyed watching Lynn.  He always said Maxie had so much energy, it was all he could do to keep up, but he did!  Our club was very close and I spent so many wonderful times with Lynn.  I knew some of his history.  My family, too, is from N. Dakota.  It was always a delight to watch his reaction getting comfortable in his new family.  Although our club had a huge spread in age  (I am Maxie's kids age), I always felt it a privilege to be included in the "oldsters" activities outside of the dance floor.  Many Fri nights spent at Denneys or Laurel Inn(Black Bear, camping.....  I know his family is truly going to miss this man...I know the first thing Maxie gave him was a big yellow rock!

I will miss you so much, but I am so grateful for the lifetime of memories you leave with me.. Izaiah and Patricia are so luck to have had such a close relationship with their great grandfather and they will forever have the memories of you going to the father/daughter dance with Patricia.. Talking to Zai about art and painting.. And many more.. Give granny a big kiss from us and have fun in that great motorhome in the sky.. I know granny was waiting for you so you guys could finally travel to all those places you missed during your time down here with us..I love you and am so grateful for my time with you... Love you grandpa

Lynn McKay Miller
May 9, 1932 – October 1, 2013

Lynn was born in the small town of Sidney, North Dakota on May 9, 1932. His Father, Frederick Marvin Miller was a cowboy from Coal Harbor, North Dakota when he met Lynn's Mother, Ethel Violet McChesney living on the Sidney homestead ranch where she was born and raised.  Lynn was their first child. 

At age three, Lynn's Father was offered a job 1200 miles away in Spreckles, California. They were forced to make an unscheduled stop in Ontario, Oregon when Lynn's brother Marvin decided to make an early entry into the world. His parents decided to stay on and moved to Payette, Idaho just across the river where his Father found a job with the Payette Creamery. Within a few years, Lynn's Father had his own creamery business and the family prospered. 

By the time Lynn was 13 most of his Mother's family had moved to the Sacramento (California) area and Lynn's family followed suit. They bought a large house on 15th Ave and Lynn attended Stanford Junior High School. A few years later they moved a short distance away to 10th Ave and Lynn attended Sacramento High School. All through high school he worked part-time in a small neighborhood grocery store. As soon as he had enough money he bought his first car, a 1928 blue Graham Sedan with wooden spoke wheels. He loved this car and every morning mixed up and applied a concoction of kerosene & oil to the spokes to keep the wood from cracking.  

As a youngster, Lynn dreamed of being a doctor but later came to realize this was not for him. After graduating from high school, he landed a good job with the State of California in a brand new area called information systems. This work eventually became what is now known as computer programming. He continued to live at home and when his Mother was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 51, he stayed home and took care of her until she died a short time later.  

Although Lynn had a number of girlfriends over the years, he never married until he met the love of his life Maxie Jane Lynch. Both said it was love at first sight. Lynn never tired of telling the story of Maxie's first words to him. They met at a party and Lynn asked Maxie to dance. She said “Are you kidding!” and the next thing he knew they were on the dance floor. They danced together for the next 39 years.  

Maxie was a widow with four children. At 38, Lynn found himself a new husband with an instant family which included four children and two grandchildren. He moved to Salinas and both he and Maxie worked in the computer programming field. Eventually they moved to a home in Prunedale and spent their spare time square dancing, travelling in their motorhome and with family. The family grew ,adding sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law and more grandchildren. Coming from a small quiet reserved family Lynn was unprepared for the noisy enthusiastic Lynch clan but managed to find his place both in the family and in their hearts. 

They planned to join the ‘Sunbirds' when they retired and travel around the United States in their motorhome. This was not to be. Maxie became quite ill right after she retired and was receiving treatment in the Bay area. They lived for a time in Carmel, Redding and finally settled in Sacramento in 2004. They lived happily surrounded my family until Maxie passed away in 2009. After almost 40 years together, Lynn's heart was broken but he found comfort spending time with his family which by then had grown to 36 including 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In his final days, his grandson Patrick Thomas took care of him and he died peacefully in his own home. 

He leaves behind his daughters Sandra, Victoria and Patricia and son Michael. His grandchildren: Vicki, Patrick, Ron Jr, John, Bree, Summer, Amanda and Margarita. His great-grandchildren: Jesse, Patricia, Kayla, Dominic, Conner, Isaiah, Nina, Kaitlyn, Zoe and Ryder. His nephews: Rusty and Marvin.

Lynn McKay Miller passed away peacefully at his Citrus Heights home on 1 October 2013. Lynn was the dearly loved husband of Maxie Jane (deceased), survived by his daughters: Sandy, Victoria, Patricia, son Michael, grandchildren: Patrick, Summer, Vicki, Margo, Amanda, John, Ron Jr. Bree,  nephews: Marvin & Rusty and 10 great-grandchildren. Lynn was a retired computer programmer who loved camping, painting, baseball, old movies and dancing. He was the quiet sanctuary within the boisterous chaos of family gatherings and drama.  Service Sat. 10/12/13 at Mt. Vernon, 8201 Greenback Ln. Fair Oaks, CA.
