Age 98 | Passed October 5, 2025 | Fair Oaks, CA
Marcene Elise Laing Jorgensen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at the age of 98 in Fair Oaks, California. Marcene was a shining example of grace, loyalty, and unwavering love—a woman who touched others with her gentle spirit and quiet strength. Her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fully capture, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly. Marcene lived a full and meaningful life marked by love, resilience, and deep commitment to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Jorgensen-Easterla (Todd), her grandchildren Jennifer Garrigan (daughter Collins Garrigan) and Justin Mullins (Amanda, children Elise and Bryce). She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Harold Jorgensen, and daughter Marcia Jorgensen Reno.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska to Perry and Sofie Laing, Marcene excelled from a young age, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. Following her graduation, she moved to California, where she began a long and successful 38-year career as a Marketing Service Representative with the Pacific Bell Telephone Company. Her professional journey was marked by dedication and a spirit of service, just as her personal life was defined by her deep loyalty and care for others.
Marcene’s greatest joy in life was her family. She gave endlessly of herself, offering unconditional love, warm encouragement, and a nurturing presence that left an indelible mark on everyone she touched. She was the heart of her home, the keeper of traditions, and the warm, steady presence that made everyone feel safe, cherished, and understood. She was the kind of mother and grandmother who made everything feel possible, offering unconditional love and gentle guidance through every chapter of life. Her homemade meals, her thoughtful words, her laughter, and her hugs became treasured memories passed from one generation to the next. She, with her husband Harold, built a life centered on love, family, and simple joys.
A devoted homemaker and an exceptional cook, Marcene passed down these talents and traditions to her children and grandchildren. She adored time with her family, shared lifelong friendships with her cherished "telephone gals," had a soft spot for Engelbert Humperdinck’s music, and was rooted faithfully for her San Francisco 49ers, no matter the season.
A Celebration of Life will be held in June 2026, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marcene’s memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or Shriners Children’s Hospital—causes close to her heart.
Her life was a hummingbird, tender and bright,
Flitting through days, with wings taking flight.
Through seasons of joy, through heartache and pain,
She hovered with grace, through sunshine and rain.
Each moment she cherished, each smile she'd share,
A soft, constant hum, her love everywhere.
Now, she’s flown on, to the heavens above,
But in every flutter, we’ll feel her love.
