Marie Concepta Sifers

December 15, 1919November 11, 2012

Marie Sifers – Born on December 15, 1919 in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England. Peacefully joined her husband, Bill, in Heaven on November 11, 2012. Marie lived a wonderful life in her almost 93 years. At six months old, she traveled with her mother and older sister through Ellis Island to join her father in San Bruno, California. She met William “Bill” Sifers in 1943 and they were married in Reno in 1944. Bill was with the Army Air Corp and later US Air Force. In the early 1940s they were assigned in Marysville and Chico. In 1946 they were transferred to Hickam Field, Honolulu where Marie worked for the US Navy and later told wonderful stories of Navy and Air Force parties on Waikiki when there was only one hotel. Returning to California, Bill was transferred to Mather AFB. Daughter Sharon was born in 1951 and son Bill in 1953. They had assignments in Texas in 1954 and Japan in the early 1960s. Back in Sacramento, Marie worked at McClellan AFB in the in-bound household goods office. In retirement, Marie and Bill spent many years with friends and enjoyed travel to Hawaii, Alaska and England where Marie was able to visit with some of her relatives. Marie and Bill hosted and traveled to reunions with Air Force friends they knew from the 1940s and 1950s. Bill died in 1999, just 11 days shy of their 55th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was filled with love and respect for each other. Marie is described by those who knew her as one of the sweetest people they know. She was always welcoming and kind, as attested by friends of her children who all called her “Mom”. She is survived by her son and daughter, son-in law Harold “Art” Dorl and her many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, Nov 19 at 10:00am with a viewing from 9-10:00 at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Ln. Fair Oaks, CA 95667. For more information visit
