Marlin Starling Jr. was born on July 17, 1944, in Jacksonville, TX. He was one of five siblings in a tightly knit farming family where he obtained his strong work ethic and dedication to family that he would hand down to the generations to follow. He highly valued education and personal growth, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a MBA in Management and Economics at Texas A&M University. He went on to leave Texas to serve in the Navy as a Communications Technician during the Vietnam War.
After his time in the military, Marlin dedicated his career to civil service. He became the Director of all Audit Operations in the Pacific for the U.S. Army in South Korea. He then moved to the U.S. to become the California Regional Auditor General for the Department of Energy. Though he lived a life of service through his work, Marlin’s greatest service would be to his family.
It was during his time in Korea that Marlin met Okja (Tina) Kim, who would become his wife. They raised two children, Jason and Jeremiah. Marlin was a loving father and husband, who cared for his family more than anything and with unconditional love. He became a grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren, Skylar, Sage, and Jacob, who carry on his legacy of kindness and dedication to family. We say farewell to Marlin today, who will always be alive in our hearts and in the way we live.
