Martha was born on a small country farm in Timpson, Texas in 1933 during the Great Depression. She was raised by her Mother Virgie Richards, her Grandmother Nettie Skinner and her Uncle Billy Skinner. She was the youngest of 4 children; Adele, Harold, Stroud and Martha.
Martha was proud of her simple upbringing and often said they lived like pioneers with no electricity or running water. She would often talk about how lucky she was to have that childhood. As her memory faded all she wanted was to be on the farm and living in that simpler time.
She graduated from C. K. McClatchy High school in 1950and proudly walked across the stage at Memorial Auditorium to receive her diploma with Virgie and Stroud Cheering from the audience.
She went to work at 17 and worked for 47 years retiring from Manor Care after working many years at the Union News as well.
Martha married Fred Flinchum in 1952 and after traveling and living in a few states settled in Fair Oaks in this house in 1972. They adopted Michael and Sharon and raised them here. After 1980 she raised them on her own. She was a very strong and independent woman.
She always had an admiration for her grandmother and by example she always had an open door to those friends and family that needed help. Always offering up her house and a home cooked meal to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends alike. She was mother to Michael and Sharon but many of their friends still called her Mom.
Martha is Survived by her children Michael Andrew Flinchum and Sharon Ruth Flinchum, her Daughter in law Emily Flinchum, her grandchildren Julian Flinchum, Mark Marquis and Jocelyn Wilson and her great grandchildren Angel, Lillith and Lotus.
