Mary Jane Yench quietly passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023. She was born in San Francisco, CA to Norman and Vera Forbyn on February 6, 1943. After the birth of her brother, Rick, they moved to Salt Lake City where her remaining three siblings were born and all lived surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins nearby. When she was 8 years old the family returned to the San Francisco bay area and eventually settled in Napa at the age of 16 where she graduated from high school.
After graduating high school, she returned to San Francisco before marrying Jim Young, the father of her children and settled in Vallejo, CA. They later divorced but have remained in contact in support of their children and grandchildren. Jane eventually settled in Napa, CA to raise her children and then spent the last 25 years living in the Sacramento area to care for and be near her family.
Jane was truly a woman of many talents, working in many different fields. She was a model, a splicer for the telephone company, a welder, a manager of a clothing store, and personal assistant for the Trefethens. Her greatest talent was her selfless support and caregiving she provided for her parents, children and grandchildren.
She always had a love of music, reading and painting. When Jane was not caring for her family, you could often find her at home playing her piano, dancing in her living room, sketching/painting or quietly reading all hours of the night. (She had a passion for a great story.) She was also an accomplished seamstress, completing projects as simple as custom Halloween costumes to more complex projects such as reupholstering a boat and making her daughter’s wedding dress. If it needed doing, she would do her best to get it done.
Jane is survived by her children, Jason (Susan) and Sarah (Chris), her six grandchildren David (Erica), Deidra (Oren), Danella, Bracen, Brittany, and Riley, and three great grandchildren Elliana, Aubrey, and Dominic.
She is also survived by her siblings Rick (Myra), Anne (Michael), Terry, and John (Rita), as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Vera Forbyn.
Family and friends are welcome to attend an open house celebration of life, which will be held at her son’s residence, 1740 Johnny Ave, Atwater, CA on August 12 from 11:00am-4:00 pm. Please RSVP to let us know if you can join us by emailing Sarah, her daughter, at [email protected].
