She was born Mary Francis Gibson on September 11th 1921 in Eola, TX to Robert and Jennie Gibson. Mary came from a large family where she had one older half-sister (Ruth), three older brothers (Charlie, Gordon, & Curtis), a twin brother (Frank), and one younger brother (Aubrey Lee). Mary spent most of her young life living in Menard then Brady, Texas. After graduating high school she served in the WACS for the US Army where she was a cook. Shortly after serving in WW2 she married her husband Bihl Stevens and they had three children: Robert Allen, Sandra, and Billy Joe. Times were tough and jobs were scarce so in 1963 the family moved west to Citrus Heights, California. Mary never forgot Menard and always spoke so fondly of the area and always said if she could she’d move back someday but never did.
Mary’s joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She lived a Christian life and was never one to utter a curse word except on the rare occasion while watching the Oakland As and the Sacramento Kings. She enjoyed watching her soaps, crocheting, word search puzzles and making the best fried chicken ever.
Mary is survived by two of her children, Sandra Johnson and Billy Joe Stevens (Nancy), her daughter-in-law Stella Stevens, four grandchildren: Jason Stevens (Janelle), Kristina Stewart (Lyle), Bryan Stevens, and Jodi Zybul (Ed). Three great grandchildren: Garrett Stewart, Connor Stewart, and Avery Stevens.
Funeral Services will be held Friday Jan 12th@ 1PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, CA.
