Michael John “Mike” Fitzgerald, 78, of Roseville, CA passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born in Pensacola, Florida, on October 9, 1947, the son of U.S. Navy Commander John Fitzgerald and his wife, Virginia. He was the middle child, with two sisters, Sharon and Denise. Growing up in a Navy family, Mike’s early life was filled with travel and adventure. He lived in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba; Okinawa, Japan; Newport, Rhode Island; San Diego; and the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
He graduated from Campolindo High School in Moraga, California, in 1966, and attended Diablo Valley College and California State University, Hayward. In 1970, Mike began a long and distinguished career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Over the course of his career, he served at Air Traffic Control facilities in Sacramento, CA; Reno, NV; Fort Worth, TX; Oakland, CA; Chesapeake, VA; Annapolis, MD; and the Northern California TRACON (NCT). Known for his calm professionalism and steady leadership, Mike ultimately served as an Area Manager at NorCal TRACON before retiring in 2005 after 35 years of dedicated service.
Mike was admired by colleagues and cherished by friends and family for his humor, kindness, and integrity. Outside of work, he had a lifelong passion for aviation and classic cars, and he loved spending time outdoors, especially playing golf. Most of all, he treasured time with his family — especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Barbara Davis Fitzgerald; his two children, Patrick Fitzgerald and Meghan Lambuth; and his beloved grandchildren, Madden, Dylan, and Shelby.
Mike’s life was one of service, laughter, and love. His legacy of compassion, commitment, and quiet strength will continue to inspire all who knew him.
