Our friend
Born 09-03-1917 in Lamont, Iowa
Passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California 01-03-2012 at the age of 94.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard L. Yager and many friends and relatives. Survived by her loving and devoted family; sons Lee and Bruce, daughter-in-law Kay, Grandchildren Brent and wife Valarie, Lyndee and husband Brian, Tiffany and Tyler and Great grandchildren Brandon, Trent and Josie.
Nona was born and raised in Iowa, where she met Howard. They married, moved to Sacramento and started a life together raising their two sons, Lee and Bruce. She was the catalyst of the Yager family on the West coast for 65 years... Never to waste a minute of life, Nona found time to begin an ironing service and worked out of her garage to earn extra money. In addition she was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She could sew and knit just about anything. After raising her family, she worked several years at McCllelan A.F.B. and later retired from the Army Depot. Nona loved family get-togethers and was an excellent cook, she loved her yard and gardening and she loved fishing and camping..but these last two activities were sometimes in conflict with her love of slot machines... never gambling in excess, but for the sheer excitement. In addition, Nona could sing, this was a secret, only those standing next to her in church knew her ability, she would sing her heart out, she would rock the pews, sending chills down the spines of nearby parishioners. The family believes if there had been an "American Idol" version of church music, she would have been in the competition. With few exceptions, Nona's life was one of smiles. She had the uncanny ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and the remarkable thing was, no one ever turned her down. Considering all the above accomplishments there was some adversity, she suffered three serious illnesses; Tic douloureux, Legionaires disease, and a bout with sepsis. She survived them all with the will to live and the ability to cope with life's curve balls. Nona's last goals in life were to live to 100 and to catch a sturgeon. These goals weren't met but for everyone that knows her, we are sure, in Heaven, she will be the first in line for a fishing license.
Nona will be sadly missed by family, friends, and anyone that knew her.
