OLEVIA (DOLL) SMOOTS was born in Canton, Mississippi, on March 31, 1965, to Georgia Lee Smoots and Jimmy Hudson. She was the second born to a total of seven children. As a child, Olevia enjoyed the normalities of childhood, but at an early age Miss Georgia taught Olevia to cook. Olevia was an excellent cook and this skill warmed the hearts of many.
Olevia attended Canton Public High School and enjoyed a long career in Customer Relations and Management. In 1981, Olevia bore her only child, A.D. Olevia’s and A.D.’s relationship was more than just mother and son…they were best friends and confidantes. In 1992, Olevia and A.D. moved to Sacramento, California, where she resided until her departure.
Olevia’s pride and joy were her grandchildren: Treshon, A.J., and Jordan (as well as Brandon and Serenity). Oh how she loved her grandchildren…and they loved her. Everyone gravitated to Olevia’s home. It was always filled with warmth, love, encouragement, and something hot on the stove.
As the Bible teaches, Olevia was reared in the ways of the Lord so she joined and became a faithful member of the Arcade Baptist Church. Olevia’s demeanor and personality was such that she effortlessly won the hearts and confidence of those who knew her.
Olevia departed this life on October 14, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Hudson, two brothers, Michael and Keith Smoots, and one sister, Tangie Smoots.
Olevia leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Georgia Smoots (Canton, Mississippi); spouse, Michael McGruder; son, A.D. Smoots (Krystal); grandchildren (Treshon, A.J., Jordan, Brandon and Serenity (all out of Sacramento, California); sisters, Patricia Lewis-Brown (North Carolina) and Ava Day (Canton, Mississippi); one brother, Charlie Lewis (Louisiana), and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Olevia, you are eternally in our hearts. We will forever miss you, but always love you.
