Phil and I were classmates at Franklin High School in Los Angeles.  Thank you for letting me know of his death.  He was always a fine musician and kind friend.

A coworker at the San Jose Mercury News.  Friendly, hard worker.  Had lunch with him a few times after retirement. In attendance were Bob Robinson, myself, Lars Bourne, Phil and Bill Nilsen.  Will miss him!

I've been very fortunate to have spent  so much time with Dad over the last 10 years, We have become so very close, whether watching our favorite shows or taking up the ceramics class, we laughed and enjoyed sharing our experience together. Dad was is very creative, talented and kind. Helping anyone who needed it. Dad played in many band's, including Memory Makers, the  Concert band and symphony. Life will never be the same for me, missing him so much everyday.

My dear, sweet father-in-law, I will so  miss you and your visits up here in the mountains; thank you for all the wonderful memories...

*One of his  biggest  achievements was the joy and privilege to play at Carnegie Hall. 



My Uncle Phil was a man of many talents. I remember he could pick up any musical instrument and play it, and when I was younger, it seemed that there was nothing he couldn't do.

One thing I have never forgotten was when I was about 15 years old, our Chevy station wagon needed the water pump changed. He was going to come by after work to change it out. Even though I had never worked on a car, ever, I took it upon myself to take the old pump off beforehand to help out.

What a mess! There were nuts and bolts and parts everywhere.  But he came over and patiently put everything back together, and never seemed to be frustrated with the situation. In fact, I never remember Uncle Phil ever getting angry or overly upset about anything.

Phil was our bass player and tuba player an unforgettable person. I met Phil as a member of the Veterans Band later joined the Your Musical Memories band.  Phil had played in many bands before I met him including Carnegie Hall. We shall miss his humor, wit and most of all his company. Manny

He was always Uncle Bud to me. I guess because Dad called him Bud. :)  He reminded me of grandma. Kinda quiet. Soft spoken. Sweet man. My heart goes out to you Cuz Cindy and Philip. Hugs from afar. Love Carrie

Phil was a remarkably gifted man!  His artistic ability on paper, his talent with many different instruments, and his pleasant demeanor  gave joy to many!
He will truly be missed by family and friends!!

Remembering Phil as a very devoted husband and father, someone who had an infectious laugh, and was a great musician.  He was selfless in his care of my sister, Theresa, when she became ill, and unselfishly was her main caregiver for many years until her death.  He leaves a family behind that cared a great deal about him.  My blessings, prayers, and love go out to all of them at this sad time.
