To say that Mom was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, as well as a hardworking member of our community would be a very minimized description of the impact she had on all of us.
Mom was a woman of many talents and passions, but above all she was a woman of extraordinary generosity, unwavering dedication and of boundless compassion. Born in Nashville, TN. Mom was a nurse by profession, and she brought that same dedication and passion to every aspect of her life. As the owner of Goodman's Guest Home, she worked tirelessly to inspire each individual to reach their full capacity. In doing so, she inspired us and encouraged us with her positivity. It was her leadership that brought us to individual success, her strength that kept us going and her spirit that made us believe.
We are so grateful for the way she guided this family. Mom was never afraid to be our Mother, to put her foot down to teach us right from wrong. To make sure we did our best, she always let us know we had a mama who cared about us no matter what. She was extremely protectived when it came to her children and her grandchildren. Any threat coming at them was a threat to her and she took great pleasure in letting the intruder know that it would not be tolerated. This family and her role of mother and grandmother were the most important things to Phyllis. This is where she drew her strength and her legacy. Being with her family was what she enjoyed most of all.
Knowing how much her family meant to her, it was a special blessing that just before she passed, Mom was able to spend a wonderful time with us for Thanksgiving. Every child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and many friends flew in for the occasion. The love she showed to us was evident and will continue to be with us even though she has gone to be with God.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 64 years (Charles), 3 of her five daughters (Rose, Ramona, and Linda), her sister (Shirley), 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In the end she passed peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her most. Her legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for her family. She will be missed but her memory will live on in the numerous lives she touched during her time on this earth. Blessed are we who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. As she joins God in heaven, we take comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and suffering.
Mom, may your journey continue in a place where pain and sorrow do not exist. You will always be loved, always be missed, and forever remembered.
