

Phyllis Darline Rander, 93, of Fair Oaks, California, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 in Roseville. Born May 29, 1922 in Stockton, daughter of Ethel Jones and Lloyd Hill, Phyllis grew up on a dairy farm in Ceres, and attended Seventh Day Adventist Modesto Union Academy for high school where she sang in the chorus and played violin in the orchestra. Phyllis studied for two years at Pacific Union College and then went to nursing school in Glendale. There, she met many friends, including her future husband, the late Norbert “Randy” Rander. Phyllis and Randy were married in 1944, and later settled in a house built by Randy in Fair Oaks, where they raised their family, including daughter Kathryn Lambert, son Denis Rander, and daughter Patricia Grove. Phyllis was a nurse at Mercy Children’s Hospital in Sacramento until her retirement in 1975. Phyllis enjoyed dancing, playing cards, photography, and participating in the Emblem Club of Carmichael. Phyllis was a longtime member of the Cordova Camera Club and the Photographic Society of America, and earned an APSA and FPSA. Phyllis and Randy enjoyed traveling throughout their retirement, including trips to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico, as well as with friends, family, and the Traveling Elks Club. Phyllis is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and her brother Lyle. Memorial services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Mount Vernon memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA, 95628.
