

He graduated from Centennial High School in 1968. In March 1970, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, nine months of which was served against hostile forces in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star Medal.
After his military services, he studied to be an engineer at Portland State University and graduated in 1983 with his Bachelor of Science degree.
He was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration and loved his job. He retired in 2018 with 37 years and 7 months of service to the people of the United States of America.
He enjoyed photography, swimming, sailing, traveling, and the time he spent with his daughters.
He was married to Elizabeth A. Gustin for over 34 years. They have two daughters.
Predeceased by his mother Betty Jayne Schmidt, his grandmother Lois Elizabeth Brown and grandfather Elige Brown.
Survived by wife Elizabeth Gustin; daughter Jennifer Bishop (husband Adam), granddaughters Alisha and Jordan Bishop; Daughter Kathryn Gustin; Stepfather Stanley Eugene Schmidt and brother Steve Schmidt.
