

Born on March 7, 1936 in Corbin, Kentucky, Retha Buchanan Copeland passed away peacefully March 27, 2013 in Fair Oaks, California. She is preceded in death by her parents, George W and Margaret Jones Copeland; her siblings William Copeland, Lucille Reed, Edith Brown, Luther (Hank) Copeland, George Copeland, Jr, Ruth Harris, Ruby Copeland, Imogene Harris, Ralph (Ronnie) Copeland, and her husband Robert W Buchanan. Retha is survived by her daughters Deborah L Buchanan Armstrong and Sandra E Buchanan; her grandchildren Marissa Rayan Turner, Nicholas A Williams, Alexandra Leigh Damon, Kristen A Williams, Joseph Buchanan Damon, and Riannon A Williams; and her great grandsons Blake Buchanan Turner, and Nathaniel Penn Turner. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Lena Terrell, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Retha was known for her intelligence, sense of humor, spirit of adventure, independence, and for her loving focus and attention to her family. She was a continuously involved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She inspired her family and those around her to follow their dreams, their hearts, and to explore their full potential. Her life exemplified these traits. As Mom, Gram, and Grammy to her children and their children; she will be sorely missed and eternally loved and cherished by those she brought into this world.
A private family service will be held in San Diego, California later this summer.
