Roohangiz Parvas aka Raknetta Pankratov, was born on May 14, 1933 in Semnan, Iran. She went by Roohi joon most of her life or Mamaz in recent years by her close family members, a moniker given to her by her first grandson. She was the daughter of Dr. Vitali Stepanovic Pankratov, aka Dr. Manoochehr Parvas, a Russian Army Surgeon of Ukrainian origin who had migrated to Iran post Russian Revolution of 1917, and Leila Sahafi, a local resident of Semnan, Iran. Her first name, Roohangiz, literally translates to lifegiving and refreshing...and she stayed true to her first name all her life.
She moved to California in 1999 from Iran at the encouragement of her daughter and lived in Citrus Heights and Sacramento until the end. Roohi joon passed away peacefully at Kaiser Permanente hospital in Roseville, CA of congested heart failure after a long illness, the same hospital that her late husband, Ali Hakimzadeh, had passed away at in August 2008. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
Roohangiz is survived by her two sons, Hamid and Farzad, two daughter in-laws Parri and Hoda and her five grandchildren (Azar, Ali, Dan, Aiden and Ryan) and four great grandchildren.
Roohangiz was a woman of faith from young age and had converted to Christianity in the final decade of her life. She was an active churchgoer prior to the 2020 pandemic and would hold weekly in-house prayer sessions during and after the pandemic. She was loved by all who knew her.
Roohangiz will be laid to rest at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, CA.
