Age 88, born in Port Arthur, Texas, of Sicilian heritage. Daughter of Giuseppe (Joe) and Girolama (Mamie) Bruno. Survived by brothers Tony and Sam Bruno, daughter Carol Verdolivo (Craig), son Don Carter (Linda); three grandchildren, Christi Powers, Rachel Verdolivo, and Matt Verdolivo. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roy and Peter Joseph, and her husband James M. Carter (1999). She, her husband Jim, and her children traveled with the U.S. Army in their early years, primarily to Germany. She was a cashier at Sears Roebuck & Co. for 19 years. She was a proud member of the Eastern Star since 1949. Rose and Jim moved to Oroville in 1976, and were active in the Shriners Children’s Hospital Charity.
After Jim died, Rose moved to the Sacramento area to be closer to family. Rose was an excellent Southern cook, loved to crochet, play card games, and watch sports – especially tennis. She was a loving, family oriented mother and friend to many. She will be very much missed.
A visitation will take place from 5-7pm Wednesday, July 6 at Mount Vernon Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Ln. Fair Oaks, CA with a celebration of her life 11am Thursday, July 7, also at Mount Vernon. Burial will take place 2pm Friday, July 8 at Oroville Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Children’s Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
