Nov. 12, 1918 – Dec.29, 2011
Ruth passed away in Sacramento, CA with family attending her on December 29, 2011, at the age of 93. After being diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 87, she delighted her family that she was able to survive another few years. She was the firstborn to Travis and Maude Brown, in Johnson County, Texas. Her daddy nicknamed her “Peck,” the name the Brown family called her the remainder of her days. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 52 years, A.P. Lofton, and two sisters and a brother. Ruth grew up in west Texas marrying A.P. in 1940. They resided and farmed in eastern New Mexico until moving in 1953 to the Sacramento area where she was to remain. She did retail sales at Davis Apparel in North Highlands until completing typing and shorthand courses, after which she worked for McClellan AFB and the State of California for 20 years. Ruth also got great enjoyment from the volunteer work she did at local elementary schools. She always loved sewing, clothing all of her family. She loved doing crafts and, after taking some art classes, found she also had talent in that medium, rewarding her family with paintings and drawings. Survived by daughter Carol Mosier, son Alan Lofton (Lydia), daughter Lynna Lofton (Mohammad Saleh); grandchildren Sheila Lofton, Kevin Lane (Stacey), Sean Mosier; great grandchildren Scott Baber, Erin and Braden Lane; brother Joe Brown, sister Ysleta Kittrell (T.J.), sister-in-law Dora Brown, brother-in-law Duncan Lofton (Joyce); many nieces and nephews; and extended family Richard Kolak and Grant Baber. The family thanks the staff at Apple Ridge Assisted Living for the loving care and help given. At her request no services will be held. Burial entrusted to Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Ln., Fair Oaks, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacramento Loaves & Fishes or The American Cancer Society.
Arrangements under the direction of Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary, Fair Oaks, CA.
