Steve Sheffield, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025. Steve was born and raised in Jefferson, Oregon. As a young man, he moved to California where he worked in construction building homes then later worked for the State of California for 30 years as a state building inspector. He always had a side business for friends and family in flooring and construction work.
For 32 years Steve shared his life with his wife, Joyce. He was a father to Anthony, Eric, Kimberly and Kevin and stepfather to Joan and Jennifer. Steve was a proud grandparent of 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Bob, Lonny and Dianne, along with countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Jerry. Thanksgiving in Oregon was a must every year with as many as 75 for dinner. Steve was well known for his pies both in Jefferson and in Sacramento and took special pride in his fresh peach pie.
He loved his annual treks to Carmel and Mendocino with friends, was a lifelong Dodgers fan, a Kings fan, a golfer and an enthusiastic tennis player. Steve was also a man of strong faith, rarely missing services at the Church of God, 7th Day. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his faith, and his love of community.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, noon at Mount Vernon in Fair Oaks where friends and family are invited to gather to share stories and celebrate a life well lived. He will be deeply missed, remembered, always with love and gratitude and faith. If you wish to attend, please let Joyce know.
