1977-2020
Tawfic Kamel Rashid was born in San Francisco, California on June 27, 1977. He passed away on July 2, 2020.
From an early age, Tawfic’s essence could be seen by those who loved him. Tawfic was loyal, passionate about law enforcement, playful, and he had an unparalleled zest for life. When Tawfic was a child, he could often be seen disassembling and then assembling his toys, watches, and household appliances because he was fascinated by the craftsmanship of the item. Tawfic’s passion for building and creating would never go away. From a young age Tawfic always had a plan, whether that be hanging out with friends, working on a project, or making money, he had a plan. Tawfic worked earlier than most-as a paperboy, salesman in flea markets, salesman in electronics stores, and a service worker in various restaurants. One could say that Tawfic was always on the move. He was always in and out of the house. He was always accomplishing things with a great passion for life and all that life has to offer. As Tawfic entered high school, his passion for law enforcement and the military began to display itself. Tawfic went to Armijo High School in Fairfield, California, and his passion for the ROTC program was clear from day one. Tawfic could be seen in uniform throughout his high school experience, and his uniform would always be neat, clean, and ironed to perfection.
After high school, Tawfic entered the military. Tawfic was proud of his service in the military. He never talked about his exploits and accomplishments, even when asked, but you could see his achievements around his home, in his office, and in the smile on his face when retelling his career in the United States Army. Tawfic was not the type to talk about battles when he talked about his career in the military, specifically his time in Iraq from 2003-2004. If you asked Tawfic to talk about Iraq, he would pull out his photo album, and show you his pictures with numerous stories tied to each picture. Tawfic would talk about his fellow soldiers; he would talk about the generosity of the Iraqi people; and he would talk about the food he had eaten. Tawfic loved to talk about people, culture, and food when discussing his experience in Iraq, and that was part of his beautiful essence-he saw people for who they are and he saw it clearly. Tawfic’s mission in Iraq was focused on humanitarian values and that was clear to all who knew him well.
After Iraq, Tawfic came back to Vacaville, California and met his wife Katie. When Tawfic met his future wife, Katie, she was working as his hygienist, and his excitement was clear from the first day he met her. Tawfic and Katie lived life together with a great passion for life-going to restaurants, visiting friends and family, going on vacations, and building a wonderful family and home. Tawfic’s house is a monument to Tawfic and his amazing ability to build. Tawfic built, he planted, and he sacrificed for his family with a work ethic that we all admired. Tawfic and Katie had three children together-Autumn, Noah, and Jacob. Autumn has Tawfic’s intuitive nature, as well as his ability to understand people. Noah has Tawfic’s mechanical skills, love of technology, and introverted personality. Jacob has Tawfic’s energetic zest for life. Tawfic’s personality will never go away because it will be within his children for years to come.
When you ask people about Tawfic, people often say “he had a presence”. Tawfic truly had a presence in every room he entered and in every gathering he found himself in. Tawfic will always be remembered by his wife and children, and his presence will never be forgotten by his siblings-Sarah, Musa, Maryam, and Shukri. Tawfic’s presence will always be remembered by his parents-Kamel and Maha Rashid. Tawfic liked to say the word “outstanding” to describe various positive things that he enjoyed. Tawfic-you had an outstanding life and you will be forever loved and missed.
