

Passed away October 6, 2011 at his home in Sacramento, California.
He was born February 26, 1928 in Calvert City, Kentucky to Reginald and Maggie Smith.
Vastine married the love of his life, Peggy Jean Owen, on October 7, 1945 in Benton, Kentucky.
He started out as the Superintendant of a construction company out of Columbus, Ohio which moved him and his family to Sacramento in 1955.
Vastine was a member of Local #118 Ironworkers, he owned and operated 16th Street Plating Co., and he worked on several projects in the Sacramento area. He built the Sacramento Raceway in 1964, the sports complex at Capital Christian Center in the late 1980’s and Capital Mountain Christian Camp, where he worked the last 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy Smith; children Charles (Raejean) Smith and children, Melissa, Keith and Shelby; Patricia (Jim) Staropoli and children Todd, Octavia, and Nicholas; and Philip (Debbie) Smith and daughter Suzanne; 6 great-grandchildren and his brother, Velvin Smith.
Services will be 10:00am Friday, October 14, 2011 at Trinity Life Center, 5225 Hillsdale Blvd, Sacramento, CA with Interment to follow at 12:30pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Ln. Fair Oaks, CA.
