

Velma was born to Lee and Lizzie Neill in Whiteville, North Carolina on May 31, 1923 and passed on April 16, 2014. She always had fond memories throughout her life of their modest home in North Carolina shared by her 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Velma's mother Lizzie was born in 1905 and passed in 1980. Her father was born in 1902 and passed in 1992. She is survived by her brothers Ralph Neill of Eagle River, AK, Donald Neill of Elizabethtown, NC and sister Rachel Gregson of Greensboro, NC and includes 10 nephews and 9 nieces. Predeceased are sisters Sybil Britt of Bladenboro, NC, Lois Wood of Delmar, DE and Myrtle Bowen of Whiteville, NC. Since a young girl Velma dreamed of becoming a nurse when she saw "angels" dressed all in white at the hospital. Velma fulfilled that dream and was a registered nurse from 1945 to 1962 and brought many babies into the world. Velma accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at nine years old and remained a member of the church throughout her life. Velma joined the Cypress Ave Baptist Church in 1971 and enjoyed being usher and greeter. Velma married Paul Little in 1954 and enjoyed 47 happy years together before he passed in 2001. The couple especially enjoyed Crescent City, CA where they made many friends staying there during the summers. Velma was always generous with her activities in the church. Velma enjoyed watching game shows, solving cross word puzzles and playing dominoes and cards with her friends. Velma loved, and was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Services will be held on April 26th, 10:00 a.m. at The Church on Cypress, 5709 Cypress Ave, Carmichael, CA. Graveside services will be April 28th , 10:00 a.m. at Mt Vernon Cemetery, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Church on Cypress.
