

Virginia was born to parents Jose Nicolas Gomez & Maria Letania Martinez Gomez, she had six sisters and one brother.
Virginia began her career as a telephone switchboard operator in 1958 later teaching private English and typewriting classes near Guantanamo Base in Cuba.
Finding love with Rodolfo Diaz Herrera, a Typewriter mechanic and entrepreneur, they married three months after meeting in the spring of 1961. They were married for 50 years.
Leaving her beloved land, Virginia and Rodolfo sacrificed themselves to give their family a better life by making way into the sea 60 years ago. Lost at sea for three days, found by freedom's hand and carried to U.S. soil by the U.S. Navy in the fall of 1964.
In the U.S. Virginia flourished into becoming a highly respected investigative social worker. She received her BA from Cal State LA in Sociology with a minor in Chicano Studies in 1984. Later she worked for the LA school district and then LA County Children Services as a first response social worker.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Ln, Fair Oaks, CA 95628, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
