

Virginia Jordan Doughty Keene, affectionately known as "Ginger" to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, just three days after celebrating her 94th birthday. Born on June 22, 1932, to Warren and Theresa Jordan, Virginia's life was filled with love, adventure, and resilience—a life well-lived in every sense.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Warren and Theresa, her cherished husbands, John Doughty and Howard Keene, and her dear son, Scott Doughty. She is survived by her loving daughters, Rochelle Doughty, Patricia Boustead and her husband John, and Amanda Doughty. Virginia also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Amanda, Severus, and Autumn, who brought endless joy and pride into her life.
Virginia's journey began in Detroit, Michigan, where she graduated from Denby High School. Her quest for knowledge was insatiable, and she pursued numerous college and enrichment classes, nurturing her varied interests throughout her life. A woman of many talents, Virginia wore numerous professional hats—from her early days at the flagship J.L. Hudson's downtown store to her role at a small bookbindery in East Detroit. Her compassionate heart led her to teach nutrition to families through the State of Michigan Extension program, and she later served as a paraprofessional aide in Warren Consolidated Schools, touching countless lives with her dedication and care.
In 1951, Virginia married John Doughty, with whom she shared 31 beautiful years and raised four children in East Detroit. They created a warm and loving home filled with laughter and adventure. In 2007, she found love again with Howard Keene, and together they embarked on new chapters, sharing their lives in Kerrville, Texas.
Virginia's life was richly colored by her involvement with various organizations. She was a devoted member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in East Detroit and later engaged with the UU Fellowship of Kerrville, TX. Her adventurous spirit and love for community led her to participate in numerous RV clubs, exploring the vast beauty of the United States. In Kerrville, she found joy in walking and biking clubs, embracing the outdoors with zest and vitality.
A woman of boundless curiosity, Virginia was an avid reader and a frequent visitor to the library, always seeking to expand her horizons. Her love for sewing and thrift store treasure hunts was matched only by her keen interest in financial management and frugality. Virginia was a remarkable woman—independent, unafraid to speak her mind, and ever-seeking adventure.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional care staff at All Seasons Central, whose dedication and kindness went above and beyond for Virginia, providing comfort and support in her final days.

Virginia's legacy is one of love, strength, and life. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
