Sue is survived her two sons, Rick and Brad, Son-in-law Jerry Woodward, her brother Buddy Verner and her sister Joan May.
Sue grew up in New Orleans in the 1930’s. Sue attended an all-girls school where she received her education while developing a strong work ethic, tenacious spirit and generous heart. Sue was a true example of a self-starter teaching herself to sew in elementary school quickly becoming a skilled seamstress and making most of her childhood clothes. Sue had a wicked sense of humor and outgoing personality.
In Sue’s early twenty’s she was “set up” by good friends with Officer Richard Oldham from the Air Force. They were quick to fall in love and quick to marry spending their early years in Seattle, WA, Champaign, Illinois, Bitburg Germany, and lastly Sacramento, CA.
Sue was the epitome of the perfect military wife supporting her husband’s success and rank all the way to a Lieutenant Colonel sacrificing her own career until later years. While her husband may have been a lieutenant colonel in the air force, she was the commander in chief of their lovely home! Sue was a tasteful decorator, passionate quilter, talented seamstress, collector of sewing machines, homemaker, and entertainer extraordinaire! Sue was an avid bridge player, often havening five tables going on any given evening. Sue was an accomplished singer who loved to play the Ukulele and sing country western songs. In addition to her many talents and hobbies, Sue was an active member of her community volunteering for numerous organizations throughout the county. She was an animal lover and beloved friend to many. When her husband’s career and rank were secured and her sons were showing signs of growing independent, Sue had the energy and drive to start her own career in real estate becoming a top producer and member of the million dollar club her very first year.
Sue was truly a vibrant, generous, fun loving, and beautiful woman who worked hard to maintain her girlish figure all of her years. She took great pride in her home, becoming a lieutenant’s colonel’s wife. She was proud of her successful career in real estate, entertaining large groups, families, and friends. She was a contributing member of the community and a loyal lifelong friend to many. The role she cherished most was being a mother to her two sons, Richard and Bradley. They describe her as being an incredibly loving, giving, loyal, accepting, and nurturing mom who will be held close to their hearts and greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank Hakeem Smith for Sue’s loving care. With his help Sue was able to return to her own home allowing friends and family to visit often.
