Great-great-grandson: Kenneth Cade Stacy and sister in law, Armandina Canales. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved Alicia very much.
Alicia was a devoted homemaker and later served as Jim Hogg County Treasurer, completing the remaining term of her late husband, Jose. Nana, as we called her, was a wonderful cook known for her delicious fried chicken, lemon meringue pie, potato boats, and her famous apple cake—just a few of the family’s many favorites. Nana will always be remembered for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She never believed in dwelling on sadness and often reminded us that laughter was the best medicine.
Alicia was a woman of deep faith who loved God and her church. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and participated in several parish organizations throughout the years, including the Little Flower School Mother’s Club, Guadalupanas, Secular Franciscanas, the Sociedad Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez (where she served as a member and officer), and the Jim Hogg County Nutrition Center Folklorico Dance Group.
She cherished family gatherings and leaves us with many wonderful memories of the times when her mother, Amalia, gathered the Canales clan together at her home and ranch. We were blessed to celebrate Alicia’s 100th birthday with her this past March. We will miss our Nana Alicia every day, but we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her Lord, her loving husband Jose, and the many family members who went before her. Her memory will forever remain with all of us who loved her so dearly.
A very special thank you goes to our families. Caring for our Nana has been both an honor and a privilege. Fortunato and Roberto, her daughters’ husbands, have been constant in providing loving support for the past fifteen years.
We are also deeply grateful to the many medical professionals and caregivers who helped care for Alicia, including Med-Team, Inc., NSCL Home Health Services, Corpus Christi Rehabilitation Hospital, Meridian Care of Hebbronville, Nurses-On-Wheels, Christus Spohn Kleberg, and Christus Spohn Shoreline.
